Yvo Samgushak aka Evoo Samgusak Mangelik (Inuit, b. 1942), Opposing Shaman Vase, Rankin Inlet / Kangiqliniq, 2004, low-fired earthenware, terra sigillata (colored slip), signed and dated beneath, overall: 13″h x 9″w x 8.5″d. During his years as a sculptor, Samgusak spent a long period exploring shamanistic radiating masks and this is an outstanding example. (Last photo shows artist with a similar piece.)
